 Cat 6.5 OmegaDrivers Available

Omega Drivers The newest OmegaDrivers ATI Radeon drivers based on Catalyst 6.5 have been released.

From the OmegaDrivers News Page:
(05/25/06)

Well, first I would like to apologize to all my fans, I was taking a short recess from the Internet to take care of real life issues with my family, heck, even my WoW time got compromised, so that's why I didn't released a 6.4 version of the Radeon Omega Drivers. In the end I decided to skip the 6.4 and just wait for the 6.5 official drivers to be released to start working on the Omega Drivers again.

Also, I finally decided to upgrade my technologically impaired PC for something that will last me a little while (wife has not seen the new bank balance yet, so I expect WWIII when it arrives at the end of the month), the new specs are in the ABOUT section if anyone is interested.

So, as you may have guessed, the new Omega Drivers based on the Catalyst 6.5 are ready!

Go to the ATI Radeon section and take a look at the Readme while downloading so you know the latest changes, additions to this set and some important notes.

Enjoy!

 Cat 6.2 OmegaDrivers Available

Omega Drivers The newest OmegaDrivers ATI Radeon drivers based on Catalyst 6.2 have been released. These drivers (or the stock ATI Cat 6.2 drivers, if you so choose) do appear to resolve the VPU Recovery Errors in 9000-series RADEON cards.

This thread on EQ2Players.com discusses the Cat 6.1 & 6.2 releases. NOTE: consensus reports indicate that low-end X-series cards seem to still be acting improperly. For those cards (and 900-series users that continue to have problems), Cat 5.2 is still the recommended driver version.

I've tested these drivers under several hours of gameplay across two days on a Sapphire RADEON 9800 PRO, and they seem to work fine. As with any video drivers (and the Omega Drivers will caution you), turning Fast Writes OFF is recommended for stability across all games, and will have no to negligible performance impact. Some of the problems reported with video cards have been traced to hardware failures, improper driver installations, and other factors. Additional confusion has been caused by some speculation that certain combination of video settings can cause similar, but not identical, symptoms (shadows being a primary suspect).

 Cat 6.1 OmegaDrivers Available

Omega Drivers The newest OmegaDrivers ATI Radeon drivers based on Catalyst 6.1 have been released.

From the OmegaDrivers News Page:
(01/18/06)

The new Omega Drivers based on the Catalyst 6.1 are ready!

Well, in case you didn't noticed by now, I decided to skip the Catalyst 5.13 drivers and went directly to the 6.1, Why? well, there where no major changes from 5.13 to 6.1, so I waited for the official version to be released and use that instead (I had the beta for a while).

Please go to the ATI Radeon section and take a look at the Readme while downloading so you know the latest changes, additions to this set and some important notes or warnings.

Enjoy!

Unfortunately, for quite some time now, drivers after Cat 5.2 up to and including the 6.1 drivers (whether it be the stock ATI or modified OmegaDrivers version) do NOT resolve the VPU recovery blackscreens/lockups in Everquest II reported by players in this thread and yet another thread. This thread discusses the Cat 6.1 release. Cat 5.2 is still the recommended driver version.

Omega Drivers The newest OmegaDrivers ATI Radeon drivers based on Catalyst 5.11 have been released.

From the OmegaDrivers News Page:
(12/02/05)

Ok, it took me a little while cause I was beta testing something new for this release and I wanted to make sure it worked. Now all the work is done and my new Omega Drivers based on the Cat 5.11 are ready for public release!

 Cat 5.10a (BETA) OmegaDrivers Available

Omega Drivers The newest OmegaDrivers ATI Radeon drivers based on Catalyst 5.10a (BETA) have been released.

From the OmegaDrivers News Page:
(10/25/05)

Ok, the update is up now, the new version is 2.6.75a, sorry for the problems with the original release, but please download and update to the new one since there are tons of internal changes.

(10/24/05)

Ok, the new drivers based on the Cat 5.10a are here (Yes, decided to jump the official 5.10).

Go to the ATI Radeon section and take a look at the Readme while downloading so you know the latest changes, additions to this set and some important notes or warnings. As you remember from my last post here, I was going to start the development of a CCC for the Omega Drivers, well, fear not guys, I dropped the CCC idea after playing with it for a few days, I ended up uninstalling it (sorry ATI). I will continue to work and develop my drivers using alternatives to CCC for the time being.

Enjoy!

Oh! and BTW, if I can pull it off, expect a new installer for next release, more streamlined and easier to use than the actual one (also prettier).

Unfortunately, for some time now, drivers after Cat 5.2 up to and including the 5.11 drivers (whether it be the stock ATI or modified OmegaDrivers version) do NOT resolve the blackscreens/lockups in Everquest II reported by players in this thread.

It should be noted that the various solutions presented in the forums other than reinstalling Cat 5.2 will not work (but may have contributed to solving other problems a particular user was having). Setting Complex Shaders to -1 (turning off Complex Shaders altogether) may prevent the condition causing lockups, but will result in severely degrated visual quality. Basically, this turns off shaders and bypasses pretty much everything that makes owning a recent-generation video card worthwhile. And that's assuming it actually works around the problem...

ATI has provided Sony with a development driver that at last report was believed to resolve the problem in early testing. No information identifying the driver version series this fix is in or an ETA on release has been provided yet.

The issue is also being tracked in a sticky on the Technical Help and Questions forum.

Note that downgrading drivers is notoriously unreliable. It is highly recommended that folks use the Driver Cleaner to completely uninstall previous driver versions before proceeding with the downgrade. (It is vitally important that you read, understand, and follow the specific instructions that come with Driver Cleaner in order for it to be effective.)

 Cat 5.7 OmegaDrivers Available

Omega Drivers The newest OmegaDrivers ATI Radeon drivers based on Catalyst 5.7 have been released.

From the OmegaDrivers News Page:
"These drivers are based on the Cat 5.7 and they include a customized version of ATI Tray Tools instead of Radlinker. Go to the ATI Radeon section and take a look at the readme while downloading so you know the latest changes and additions to this set.

Enjoy!

UPDATE: After a few hours of the driver's release I noticed there was an error in the INF files, if you downloaded the drivers earlier (they wrong ones say they are v2.5.42 and Cat 5.6), please download them again, the available mirrors already have the updated 5.7 drivers. Sorry for any grief this situation may have caused."

NOTE: Unfortunately, Cat 5.7 and 5.8 (whether it be the stock ATI or modified OmegaDrivers version) does not resolve the blackscreens/lockups in Everquest II reported by players in this thread. It should be noted that the various solutions presented in the thread other than reinstalling Cat 5.2 will not work (but may have contributed to solving other problems a particular user was having).

Until this issue is resolved, EQ2 players who have RADEON cards must use the previous Cat 5.2 drivers.
