Welcome to the Clenched Fist Annex!
"My passions were all gathered together like fingers that made a fist. Drive is considered aggression today; I knew it then as purpose." - Bette Davis (1908 - 1989), The Lonely Life, 1962 Clenched Fist, an EverQuest II Guild on Crushbone Server, is devoted to the gathering of mature, high-caliber, dedicated, and quite possibly obsessed players into a coherent whole. Clenched Fist is a guild of friends who enjoy the both the technical and social aspects of gaming and, while we do not limit ourselves in our capabilities, we are not a guild of power-levelers or power-gamers. This is a guild for good people to come together, enjoy the camaraderie of the game and benefit from the strength that comes from a guild of powerful, like-minded individuals. Clenched Fist encourages good sportsmanship, integrity, and maintaining a good balance between the Game and life. We do not limit our membership strictly by class, race or level, but choose our members by quality of character and desire to participate. Members who can carry themselves with decorum and treat others with respect are welcome to our ranks. We constantly strive to better ourselves to reach new goals as a family. Welcome! For those interested in membership in the Clenched Fist, please be sure to review the Guild Policy first. Please also refer to the forum titled "Applicants Look Here!" for information on starting the application process.

| Apocalypse Postponed – You Still have to Pay Your Mortgage Jan 1st |
Yup, bad news, your bills are still due.
The Mayans and their predecessors, the Olmec, figured out the concept of zero hundreds of years before other parts of the world including the Mediterranean and Europe. But the confusion about the end of the world occurred because the same marker used to indicate zero also could be used for 13.
The Mayan long-count calendar has names for certain chunks of time. A baktun is a unit of time that represents close to 400 years. On Friday, there will have been 13 baktuns passed since the Mayan "year zero." The baktun is the largest chunk of time depicted on most long-count calendars, but there are also pictuns, or 20 baktuns.
Mayanist Michael Coe may be responsible for starting the fear surrounding the end-of-the-world scenario in the 1960s, before the great revolution in Mayan studies. Coe speculated as to how the Mayan people might have envisioned the end of 13 baktuns:
"This, our present universe, would be annihilated when the great cycles of the long-count reached completion."
In these enlightened days, of course, no one believes a word of it. |

| Mother's Day Marketplace Sale |
May 11th through the 13th, the Marketplace will be having a Mother's Day sale.
The modern holiday was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in the US. She then began a campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the US. Although she was successful in 1914, she was already disappointed with its commercialization by the 1920s. Jarvis' holiday was adopted by other countries and it's now celebrated all over the world. |

| Friday the 13th Game Item Sale |
Uh... some sort of sale, on some sort of superstitious day.
Every month that begins on a Sunday will contain a Friday the 13th, and there is at least one Friday the 13th in every calendar year.
The longest period that can occur without a Friday the 13th is fourteen months, either from July to September the following common year (e.g. between 2001–02, 2012–13, and 2018–19), or from August to October the following leap year (e.g. between 1999–2000 or 2027–28). |

Sony will cut about 10,000 jobs, which equates to about six percent of its global workforce, by the end of the year. The move comes after the Tokyo-based electronics firm more than doubled its loss forecast on April 5 to $2.9 billion, and the recent hiring of a new CEO, Kazuo Hirai, on April 1. Hirai looks to downsize Sony and pivot the company in a new direction to get out of the red for the first time in four years. The company will reportedly sell off its chemical products division, cutting about 3,000 workers in the process, and also make cuts within its small and midsize LCD operations. Sony did not say if it would cut these jobs in Japan, abroad, or both. |

| EQ2U Goes Live, SOE Platform Team Prepares to Eat Crow |
While Y.T. had some early secret squirrel information, it's time to take the wraps fully off.
Dethdlr and Feldon, of EQ2Wire, and extremely worthy blog focused on the EQ2 game and community, has developed a new website built on the remarkable new REST EQ2 Data Feeds API.
As a guest, you get all the functionality of the original EQ2Players site such as searching for Characters, Guilds, Items, and Spells in EverQuest II. Although they hint that this is just the start.
I highly recommend folks check it out, it's a very nice piece of work, and I want to congratulate them on the new site! |
