Greetings From Fan Faire 2011 |
Fan Faire 2011 was a fanatastic success for the Clenched Fist, with eight members in attendance, three of whom were newcomers to the FF experience.
Lot of news regarding the upcoming updates and upgrades for the game, I highly suggest folks read the excellent summaries and commentaries on The EQ2 Wire, as there's far too much information to relate here easily, and they've already done a great job of summarizing it there's little need to replicate it here.
A good time was had by all, and I'd like to thank all the CF members and also our friends and acquantances from the game who made it an enjoyable experience. It was a pleasure to meet the people behind the toons and relax in Vegas.

Left to right, bottom to top: Darrin, Tulvarus, Oxonia, Lorrik, Shaky, Toukai, and Sala. Xylarius (being his usual photophobic self) is Sir Not Appearing in this Film. |

Sony Fail Whale, Part III?! SonyPictures.com Falls |
What do you tell a giant multinational media conglomerate with two black eyes? Nothing, you told 'em twice!
Apparently Lulz Security has broken into SonyPictures.com, where it claims to have stolen the personal information of over 1,000,000 users - all stored (disgracefully) in plain text format. Lulz claims the heist was performed with a simple SQL injection - just like we saw the last time around. A portion of the group's exploit is posted online in a RAR file, which contains over 50,000 email / password combos of unfortunate users. In addition to user information, the group has blurted out over 20,000 Sony music coupons, and the admin database (including email addresses and passwords) for BMG Belgium employees.
Public statement from Lulz Security follows after the break... |

Sony Fail Whale, Part II... and Counting. |
Slashdot reports:
As Sony struggles to restore the Playstation Network we receive news today of another breach, this time at Sony Ericsson in Canada. Sony Corp. spokesman Atsuo Omagari said Wednesday that names, email and encrypted passwords may have been stolen from the Sony Ericsson Canada website, but no credit card information was taken.
According to a report on The Hacker News, a hacker group called "LulzSec" said it used an SQL Injection attack to grab information behind two sites associated with Sony Music Entertainment Japan.
In addition to a distributed denial-of-service attack the group Anonymous launched on Sony in early April and the unconfirmed Sony Music Japan and Sony Ericsson hacks, there have been attacks on PSN, SOE, Sony Music Greece, Sony Music Indonesia, Sony's Japanese ISP subsidiary So-net Entertainment, and Sony Thailand's site. |

PSN Back up - Oh Wait, Fail Whale! |
The PlayStation Network is down again. Sony had originally enabled passwords to be reset onscreen simply by entering an email address and date of birth. Whoever has the data from Sony, could, in theory, then reset any of the captured users accounts simply by entering the details they stole.
Sony has confirmed that there was "a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed." However, the company indicates there was "no hack involved." So, remember kiddies: exploits are not hacks - not until someone starts having fun with them, anyway. Very doubleplusungood, Sony. |

Northrop Grumman Firebird Is Pilot Optional |
Slashdot reports:
Although the use of unmanned aerial vehicles such as Global Hawk and Raven for military information gathering has increased sharply in the last decade due to the maturation and miniaturization of enabling technologies, conventional piloted aircraft can still be a better option depending on the mission at hand. Northrop Grumman has unveiled a new intelligence gathering aircraft called the Firebird that falls into the category of an Optionally Piloted Vehicle with its ability to be flown robotically or with a human pilot on board. |
