Roster Master Developer Response to the RoK EQ2 Players Release |
As you are probably aware by now, on November 12th, 2007, the SOE Web Platform team released a revised version of the EQ2Players website. Titled "EQ2Players RoK Release (3.4)", this new version brought new features, some bugfixes, but also introduced new problems, failed to address several long-standing problems (some of which have existed since the game's introduction in 2004, some three years ago), as well as removed existing features. This is similar to the situation that was created by changes to EQ2Players on November 14th, 2006, on the occasion of the Echoes of Faydwer (EoF) release.
These changes had a marked impact on the Roster Master project (due to missing data and inconsistently formatted feeds that were the result of the changes), but more so had a marked impact on the community. Whether users of Roster Master or just customers of SOE, players were left with unresolved problems ranging from being unable to use the data, to data not being updated consistently or correctly, to the fee-based Advanced Services not working as advertised or being able to access services that were paid for, all the way up to reoccurring problems with billing for those services.
Fortunately, the Roster Master project had been able to recover partially from these changes through the efforts of Dark Grue (RM4DF dev) and Lantis (RMSA dev). By putting our heads together along with other members of the community, the Roster Master Project community managed, once more, to find ways to work around the data format problem, but at the cost of reduced functionality.
So, what happened? |

EQ2 Character Transfer Controversy |
"Any Devs Wanna Explain Test->Live Transfers" on the EverQuest II Forums is a post pointing the way to this forum post and this forum post that allege that an entire guild has been transferred from a test server, where gaining levels and items is easier, to a live EverQuest II server in a move SOE has stated was not allowable to avoid harming game balance. The posts not only allege that a game master was involved in the account transfers, but that a GM had previously been a member of that guild and helped it gain loot along the way.
Opinions expressed in the forums range from outrage from those who feel cheated to understanding from those who feel this guild is simply being rewarded for being particularly helpful in testing things. SOE has yet to be heard from on this topic. |

Official Everquest II Atlas Hits Store Shelves |
Prima Games has released The Official Everquest II Atlas (ISBN: 0-7615-4505-0). Retail Price is $19.99 U.S. / $26.95 Can. / £12.99 U.K. The guide is 192 pages long, and consists primarily of maps, and is mercifully brief with fluff flavor text and screenshots. The book boasts the following features:
- Includes maps for Kingdom of Sky
- Complete maps listing all NPCs for virtually every zone
- The all-new Lore that fans have been clamoring for, filling in major episodes in the 500-year-history of Norrath
- Complete mob and NPC locations for tracking down individuals or monsters much more quickly
- Points of Interest, direct players to the popular "hot spots" dotted throughout the landscape
- Maps by Brasse, acclaimed cartographer and fan favorite
Print quality is merely OK, the paper quality isn't as high as one might prefer, and it would appear that the paper choice negatively affected the quality of the print. Colors are muddied, but text is readable and details are still clear.
While not a replacement for the essential (and uber-useful) EQ2Map UI modification, it is an excellent companion, especially for multi-map or multi-layer dungeons where you need to see ahead of where you are currently. |

SoE Headbutts The Gaming Community |
It would appear that SoE is becoming more free with their comments and less reserved in their customer-facing appearance.
SoE's John Smedley recently got into a back-and-forth with Penny Arcade after their repeated shots against EQ2, particularly the game's artwork and the fact that the game has had it's priced slashed several times and is still doing poorly.
In a similiar incident, not long after Joystiq put up an article entitled, Sony's MMO marketing shows signs of desperation, A comment purposrting to be SOE's Director of Corporate Communications responded lashing out at both Joystiq and Penny Arcade in a rather bitter sounding post in the comments section. |

Crushbone-Innothule Merger Complete |
The merger of the Innothule server into Crushbone is complete and servers are up.
You will need to import your UI settings (via an in-game picklist). If you had items for sale, you will probably have to re-set all your items prices and relist them for sale. It appears vendor data didn't transfer.
Chat lag is currently running out to several MINUTES. Guild members may wish to log into the Teamspeak server in order to communicate on anything other than a geological scale. |

Innothule, Crushbone Merger |
On Tuesday, 2/7/2006, Innothule will move into Crushbone.
If you have characters that you wish to keep that are under level 5 and have less than 1 gold, please make sure to log them in at least once before Thursday 2/2/06 if you want to keep them.
For those characters who do not choose to move early via the Character Transfer Service and are moved automatically on their moving day, some may be automatically renamed (with one or more 'x's appended to their name) in the case that their name is already taken by an older character. If that occurs, the renamed character will be able to use the /rename command once to choose a new name for themselves.
For guilds who are moved, the same thing may occur with the guild name, though is much less likely. For those guilds who are renamed as a result of the automatic moves, a guild leader can use the /guild rename command to rename their guild once.
Characters who move across servers will retain memories of their item discoveries from their old servers, just like they do today. No one will lose records of discoveries.
Characters who move and have items up for offline sale on the brokers will need to re-list their items on their new servers.
Characters who wait for the automatic move day will have their settings and posessions migrated with them, including UI settings, in-game mail, stored notes for Friends and Ignore lists, recipe filters, macros, socials, guilds, and shared banks. |

EverQuest II celebrates its 1st birthday on November 9, 2005. As part of the celebration, special in-game items are being offered to the players. Your reward is based on the number of days that you've been an active EQII subscriber.
However, the most extraordinary gift is the option for US and European players to use unique Asian-styled characters that were only previously available for the EverQuest II East project created by SOGA, an SOE joint-venture development studio based in Taiwan. |

Following on the development of Guild Chat for Station Players our engineers have been working to provide other means by which players can communicate with each other when offline. We have compiled some documents to help educate people that may wish to communicate with our chat infrastructure via their own programs or third party plugins.
Note: You will still need to have an active Station Players Advanced Guild Features subscription in order to communicate with your guild in EverQuest II. Advanced Guild Tools bills at a rate of $0.99/mo., it is also included in the $2.99/mo. bundle which includes all four premium features. You can add Station Players to your EverQuest II subscription by Editing Your Account and selecting "Update Station Players Premium Features".
